Stockport does have a bay platform , hardly used these days .
EWS liveried 67022 made its ATW debut today, it is currently working the Manchester hauled turn.

150280 is currently on the Manchester '158' turn.
There is now a much bigger selection of class 67's to use on the Push Pull Diagrams as Chiltern don't use them any more .
Due to OHLE problems in the Warrington Bank Quay area services are unable to operate between Chester and Manchester via Warrington , some services are presently being diverted via Altrincham.
Yesterdays 1409 from Birmingham International to Pwllheli and Aberystwyth was formed of 150250 and 158832. The conductor announced that the units were to be swapped at Shrewsbury.
158834 has had a new Voith DIWA transmission fitted for fuel consumption evaluation, the new transmission is also much lighter than the old one. The unit now sounds a lot different with a clear Voith whining and bus style change through of gears when accelerating (similar to LM Class 172 or DB Class 642)
You have to think that these trains as such where built between 22 and 25 years ago now and technology has changed over the years in engines , gearboxes and such like .

The 158's when new had Cummins and Perkins engines in them. Strange that there was only a small amount with the Perkins engines in them .

South West Trains' 158885 is interesting as one of its driving cars has a ZF transmission instead of the standard Voith - I'd be interested to hear what it sounds like with two different transmissions!

A total of 48 Class 158s (around a quarter of all 158s built) were built to a non standard specification so that they could be fitted with Perkins engines as opposed to the Cummins NTA855R1 350bhp engines that are installed on 158701-814 and 158901-910. The final batch of Class 158 units (158863-872) were fitted with a more powerful 400bhp Cummins engine (NTA855R3)

I'd certainly be interested to know why 158815-862 were fitted with Perkins engines instead of Cummins engines
As far as I am aware 158863 to 158872 were not the last of the class to be built. These were I understand 158873-94 which were built at BREL Derby but converted at Rosyth and renumbered 159001-22. These units were also fitted with Perkins engines.

That's why I forgot to include the final batch of 158s - because of their conversion to Class 159 units. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm guessing that the difference between the initial batch of 159/0s and the eight 158s converted to 159/1 units in 2006/7 is down to the different engine types between the two sub classes?
