Drax Power have ordered 200 wgons to carry biomass to the power station. This is an unusual move as power companies have until now relied on freight companies to provide wagons. They will be used to transport biomass from the ports of Tyne, Hull and Immingham.
The wagons are being built at Shirebrook, Nottinghamshire by W H Davis.
Drax Power have signed an agreement with the Port of Liverpool to import biomass from across the Atlantic. Starting in October there will initially be 13 trains per week rising to 23 per week in 2016.
