The 34 x 5 additional Class 377 ordered by Southern from Bombardier, Derby will be numbered as follows:-
377601-34 DC only units but AC can be retro-fitted for South London Metro services. These units are a replacement for the 24 Class 456 which are moving to South West Trains.
377701-08 AC/DC units. These are likely to replace Class 377/2 on duties such as East Croydon-Milton Keynes Central. These will allow a number of 377/2 to go to Thameslink on loan which should release a like number of 319s for re-furbishment.
377601 was due to be moved yesterday from Bombardier, Derby to Wembley.
It is ironic that these units were ordered after Bombardier lost the order for the new Thameslink trains yet the first has been completed before Siemens has started the Class 700!
377601 has now arrived at Stewarts Lane. It contains a lot of test equipment.
377603/7-10 have all been noted in Derby Litchurch Lane Works.
This is good news for Bombardier and the Derby workforce .

These new trains will initially be used on Thameslink until new Class 700 trains from Siemens are delivered. This will allow Class 319s to be released for new electrification schemes. Southern are just the procurer of these new trains and will not use them.
377604/05 have entered service on South London Metro services.
377613 has been delivered from Derby to Stewarts Lane.
377701 is now being built.
Good news about the class 377/6s ChildwallBlues.

Are the 377/7s to "replace" those on sub-lease from Southern to FCC?

I understand the 377/7 will replace the 377/2 on an increased East Croydon to Milton Keynes Central service. The replaced 377/2 will I assume assist on converting more services from 8 to 12 car trains.
