Southern appear to have accidentally introduced a "sleeper" service...
1A48 06:06 London Victoria to Brighton:
Train ID 1A48
RSID Unknown
Service code 24663004
Timings based on Electric Multiple Unit
Speed 100mph
Other
Every weekday from Monday 10th December 2012 to Friday 6th December 2013
Obviously just a funny mistake in their planning department!

A beneficial train to be introduced somewhere would be a Sunday afternoon sleeper!

Back to the additional 377s, it appears they are heading to Transpennine Express (North Transpennine routes) and East Midlands Trains (London-Corby).
Southern will order the 377s.
Southern will retain **some" 377s for themselves.
The remainder will then go to Thameslink until the TL specific rolling stock arrives, (short term, aprox 1 year).
The 377s will then be divided accordingly between TPE and EMT (or whoever is running the franchises at that point).
So some 377s will be coming to Liverpool for the new Liverpool-Newcastle express electric service - eventually.
Initial order will be 116 new vehicles, with a follow on order of 140 more if everything goes to plan. Southern will manage procurement on behalf of the DfT.

About these new 377s, we shall see whether they are to standard Southern spec with green seats, like the ones subleased to FCC, or to an alternative spec for TPE. Of course, Southern and TPE are both partnerships including Keolis.

The 377s will be of the 377/6 variety, the first batch from 377601-377634.
They are all formed of 5 coaches.
They are different to other 377s as they will be largely based on the Class 379.
377601 is built and being tested, and has the standard livery and suburban layout.

I suspect if they do go through with the second large batch, (for TPE/EMT), they will be specified very similar to these saloons, with a similar neutral colour scheme:
First Class
Standard Class

Not too keen on these interiors really. I may sample one next July when I am due to go to north London including Tottenham Hale.

I thought they looked quite smart - but certainly neutral.

RE: the 377/6 "additional" units being moved to TPE/EMT:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/depar...n-builders
I see no reason why the order would not progress. The Thameslink new stock contract is **almost** sorted. Government can't have diesels running under newly electrified lines, so will need new electric stock in the next couple of years. A large order, managed by one TOC can substantially reduce unit costs making it cost effective and a good PR exercise, as well as genuinely improving the UK rail network.
RE: the 377/6 being designed on the 379 body:
http://www.railnews.co.uk/news/2011/12/2...rdier.html
TPE/EMT are not going to get units with a commuter interior, therefore, it is reasonable to assume that something resembling the Class 379 (and 185) saloon is likely.

Quote:If Southern progresses with the procurement, these 116 new vehicles, and potentially 140 more, could initially be used on the Thameslink routes. Once the expected new Thameslink trains are operational these carriages will be moved to the newly electrified routes, which would include the Midland Main Line to Corby and North Transpennine Routes.
