Just thinking,since the takeover of First Chester & Wirral it's possible to do Chester to John O' Groats solely on Stagecoach buses the route would be;
1/2 Chester-Liverpool
X2/2X Liverpool-Preston
40/41 Preston-Lancaster
555 Lancaster-Keswick
X5 Keswick-Penrith
104 Penrith-Carlisle or
554 Keswick-Carlisle
79/379 Carlisle-Dumfries
X74 Dumfries-Glasgow
X24 Glasgow-Dunfermline
X54 Dunfermline-Dundee
X7 Dundee-Aberdeen
10/10A/10B or 35/35A Aberdeen-Inverness
X99 Inverness-Thurso
80 Thurso-John O' Groats
Or X99 Inverness-Wick
77 Wick-John O' Groats.

I dread to think, you'd probably need to get out early and stay in a hotel somewhere I would assume overnight and continue the journey the next day, be costly in fares no doubt as well as a hotel room and other needs which need meeting and I won't go into them.

you can also do it from manchester, swap chester > preston leg for 32 Manchester - Wigan & 113 Wigan - Preston.it be good if Stagecoach did what arriva did about 5 years ago & do an "all network, any network" day/weekly ticket

Using only the routes on that page , using the 554 to Carlisle from Keswick and going via Thurso to John O'Groats , I left Chester Bus Exchange at 0617 onboard a Stagecoach service 2 and finished the first day at Dumfries at 2245 , you start Day 2 at Dumfries at 0630 on service X74 to Glasgow and finish the day in Inverness at 2038 , you start Day 3 at 0940 enroute to Thurso and your connecting service to John O'Groats arriving at 1514.
When doing this you have to ensure you leave yourself some give and take for bus connections which are subject to road conditions .
That's an interesting thought actually - how far could you get from John O'Groats on just domestic Stagecoach services (i.e. not Megabus/Citylink)?

Lol , i will leave that to somebody else .
It was interesting to see how far you could get in one day though , seems Stagecoach do a lot of long distance work by splitting the journeys up to comply with legislation .
not really when you think of all the routes you got at least 3 of the big 3 on these days, i still think personal preference will come into things
