I believe there are talks ongoing between Network Rail and Abellio/Merseyrail which would see a (small) dedicated Merseyrail rail replacement fleet.
No idea on exact details, but was mooted because it is becoming harder - and more expensive to get vehicles during unexpected disruption.
Not sure on the operator though! Presumably for it to work, Merseyrail would need to have some of the own PSV qualified staff.
I actually think that would be an excellent idea. It's just a shame some/all of the YN51s have already been sold on. They'd be ideal for most replacements, either impromptu or planned.

They are operated by Stagecoach aren't they? Or at least where, something tells me they no longer run buses, I could be wrong though!
The 3 tri axles were sold off to Howards Travel Group but dunno if the other bueses were sold off

All been sold now. They went into storage for a few weeks but now have all gone

3 went to the big green bus company in birmingham while the remaining were surprisingly collected and driven back to london
