They were all on Birkenhead North yesterday morning apart from 230009, so it could’ve been that one returning
Reported on other forums, ultra rare workings was a a pair of 153s on the Wrexham - Bidston service today
Arriving at Chester just after eleven this morning two coaches were parked up - British Blue K11BBT and Keane's SV09EGC. Returning at about 12.30 SV09EGC was where K11BBT had been, suggesting it had been used while K11BBT appeared to be being despatched in service.
.
But as far as I can see from RTT no trains were cancelled?

Were any special events on in or around the city?

Possibly an overload. Or issue elsewhere. Chester standbys normally cover all lines out of Chester plus, Borderlands and sometimes work out of Shrewsbury.

Also not sure how long you were there but the driver may have gone for food or fuel. As long as the bus has a 10-15 min response time (depends who is on), they can go anywhere they want.
The first 197 are due to start tomorrow on the Conwy Valley line.

Test or Service?

197004 entered service today on Blaenau branch diagram starting with 5D10 empty from Chester Depot.
It seems TfW Rail aren't running any Manchester to South Wales services this week, with everything starting/terminating at Crewe. There's no explanation on their website, other than a 'check before travel' advisory for the route.

Engineering works between Crewe and Shrewsbury via Nantwich to prepare the the line for the MK4 sets.

Services from South Wales to Crewe are running via Wrexham and Chester. There wouldn't be the paths or resources to run via Wrexham and Chester to Crewe, reverse and then head to Manchester nor run from Chester to Manchester via other routes.

Great work by the brilliant TFW planning team though since they've made the last train from Crewe to Chester 3 hours early. Absolute donuts.
