Before any pedantic on here points out Ford is now Beachwood, it's in those days Beachwood was known as Ford.

Beechwood lol
I'm confused (now change there) I could have sworn that Crosville took over a 17 or 17a that went from New Brighton to Clatterbridge via the Ford Estate on D Reg. I remember being on board and the driver got lost in Liscard. (It may have been the 18) but something tells me 17 / 17a
I was only 7 at the time.
Thanks MTL.
I left the Wirral in 1980 and didn't get back until 2004. Can someone fill in some gaps please? What happened to the 91/92 Oxton Circle and 90/94 North Circle. Also when I left the Liverpool-Heswall service was 418/419. What was the difference between the 417 and 419?
Also this service was one of, if not, the first MPTE Rapidrides, albeit Crosville operated. These were designated with the 4 prefix. Somewhere along the way the Rapidrides died away and the 4 prefix was used to designate cross-river and then Wirral services. Can anyone fill in the background on this?
I'm suprised at how many buses went to or from Saughall Massie, and look at it now! no direct link to Woodside, New Brighton, Mill Park or Seacombe. Im suprised that the new 39 does not divert through. As I think many people would use a service to West Kirby.

90/94 was withdrawn in the 1979 changes, although the 94 reappeared at D-Reg with the 96 being an Eve & Sun route merging the 95/97/98/99. in 1979 all the F series Crosville routes in Wirral were renumbered between 72 & 89 & intograted with PTE routes.
91/92 was withdrawn at D-Reg, although a Red Rider 91 reappeared Liscard-Birkenhead which was replaced by the 39.
The 417 went via Irby, 418 via Pensby they were Peak Hour only services after D-Reg, as the Daytime route Heaswall-Liverpool was 72A, not sure when think may be around 89, when the 417/418 ended up operated by Merseybus with the 472 introduced.

The 418/419 were renumbered 471/472/473 when Arriva did the number chaning on the Wirral, this was so the former route 18 could be renumbered 418/419
I know back in the day Wallasey Transport/Merseyside Transport ran the 31 (later 131 or 431) ran through the Wallasey tunnel to Liverpool but what were the first buses routes to run through the Birkenhead tunnel.
Also, does anyone remember the original 433/434 which were started by Avon Buses and Blue Triangle, before Merseybus introuduced the 429/430 and then a competing 433/434?

Think Crosville registered routes through the Birkenhead Tunnel in the 1930s but not sure if they ever operated, but think there were a few works routes through the Tunnel during World War 2.
The only PTE route through the Birkenhead Tunnel was the Night Service later numbered 94/94A, the only Cross River routes in the PTE era was 31/32/418/419, plus the Night service, most of the other services that might have gone to Liverpool went to Woodside or Seacombe connecting with the Ferry.
After De-reg, wasn't the evening 431's numbered 131 and tendered.
Also not forgetting that Birkenhead & District also ran a service between Liverpool & New Brighton which I think was just numbered 31.
