Route 76 (Liverpool - Halewood) must have been introduced after Arriva took over MTL.

Well after it used to the 176/177 for years on behalf of Merseytravel

Yep, think maybe around 2008-10 when Arriva took over the 176/177, Arriva think also extended the daytime 75 into a circular around Halewood at the same time which was 74/75, my memory is a bit hazy when those routes changed though.

I'm unable to find the exact date however, here is the timetable of the newly formed 76 in 2009 using the Wayback machine and not to leave out the 76A/77 link

edit - I've tried going past this date to find a better answer, however prior to 2009, Arriva had a website that relied search queries which no longer work sadly
The 74/75 and 76 both started October 2005
