60015 worked 6E14 Seaforth - Tinsley empties this afternoon (1 June), I think this is the first Class 60 on this service for many months.
A new freight started at the beginning of 2014 from Germany to England via the Channel Tunnel. DB Schencker have won a three year contract with Novelis to carry 10 ton aluminium coils from Nievenheim (between Koln and Dusseldorf) to Ditton, Widnes. The aluminium is used in the soft drinks and automotive industries. At Ditton the train is loaded for the return journey with 27 ton slabs of recycled aluminium from Latchford. Currently the train runs three times per week but plans are in place to increase this to six.
The unloading depot at Ditton is between the closed station and the Container Terminal.
Biomass workings from Liverpool BT to Ironbridge PS are due to cease soon with the powers station due to close.
New workings are now running to Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.
Gbrf ran a special intermodal train on 22/12/2015 from Birch Coppice to Seaforth and return to demonstrate the potential of such services running on a regular basis.
