I understand that some services from the bus exchange will no longer operate there :

15/15a ( most ) from august 2015
84 from 11th October 2015

Is this because the new bus station is due to open

Also I was wondering the sign says the new bus station opens in winter 2016 however nothing has been done at all at the site

The site is still in use as a car park, can't really see it being cleared before Christmas. Maybe this is being done in anticipation of the bus station opening further down the line.

Thanks for pointing that out! Hadn't seen them xD
A gentle irony here - they're closing a car park to build a bus station - and advising motorists to use Delamere street's new car park where there used to be a bus station!

Also why did the council spend money recently doing up the Bus Exchange if it's to close next year?

Wouldn't we all like to know.. another way to waste public money?
It was a waste of money, but if you compare the current interchange to ones in nearby Warrington and Birkenhead it's essentially a glorified bus stop. Some would question if it is fit for purpose, at times there can be large groups of passengers stood outside stands in undesirable weather. It can handle the number of services that run into there well, but access from the north of the site is quite tight, again something that modern bus stations have generally eradicated.

previously the Bus exchange was a health hazard and home to rats etc, hence the minor makeover, it wasn`t exactly giving out a good image to a city like Chester considering the visitors the area gets
The current bus station does not handle the number of services well.. just look at the Liverpool stands, no layover space, and too many buses trying to get in at once.

It's an awful design!
