Myself!
Favourite Bus Type(s)
Dennis Darts (of course!), but excluding Marshall Capital bodied
Dennis Dart SLF's, but even they are growing on me now! I also
do like Northern Counties Palatine II bodied Volvo Olympians, and
also anything articulated such as Volvo B10LA's and B7LA.
Favourite Operator(s)
I am actually to some extent a fan of FirstGroup as they have
a cool interior and logo! Also I like Halton Transport as they
buy new buses EVERY year!
Favourite Livery(s)
Again FirstGroup Barbie livery is good, but I do also like Arriva,
MTL, Halton Transport and Supertravel!!!
Favourite Actual Bus
I think if I was asked to preserve any actual bus operating in
Merseyside, I would probably try to preserve Halton 1 R712
MEW, as I am a little obsessed with the number one! After
that if would of course have to be Arriva 7675 V675
DVU. This is ironic though as they are both Marshall Darts
SLF's, but that is what I mean when I said that they are growing
on me!
Least Favourite Bus Type(s)
Possibly the worst modern buses about, although pioneering, must
be the ex MTL Neoplan's, as Arriva has had one very big job trying
to get them back into service, and even MTL struggled. I think this
may have a lot to do with them being substandard, but considering
how new they are they shouldn't be that unreliable! The worst body
type for a particular vehicle is probably the East Lancs EL2000
bodied Dart, as this body just wrecks the Dart chassis as the body
is so bad! The Marshall Capital is similar, in that no matter how
new they are, they rattle, but even they are good by comparison,
as at least some seats have good legroom!
Least Favourite Livery
This has to be red/yellow/blue North Western livery, as although
it looks good when clean, once it is dirty, it just tends to look
awful, and always did look awful on East Lancs EL2000 Darts.

Hello BTOP's (Bussey Type Of People) here are my Favourite busses...
Now this may be a little sketchy but with the help of Steve Dave
I should be able to get through the questionnaire.
Favourite Bus Type(s)
My fav buses have to got to be the nice new Myllenniums... I
think they look really cool especially with that front. I also
quite like Titans (Yes I know that they are old) but they are big
and roomy and smelly... They are the type of buses that my mum
used to take me on when I was a kid in London.
Favourite Operator(s)
My fav operator is probably Arriva... They are kinda cool 'cos
they do not drive me past me like CMT do... (Take note CMT I am
getting ANNOYED).
Favourite Livery(s)
My fav livery is again Arriva's... This is mainly due to fact
that me and my "Other Half"
had an argument about the colours used... Some may remember this
as I asked for ya'll help...

Favourite Bus Type(s)
* Double Deckers
Considering Merseyside Northern Counties Palatine 2/Volvo Olympian's
(especially the ex-Millennium Fleet 3309 - 3337).
Historically the experimental '00**' MCW
Metrobuses, Dennis Dominators, Volvo Ailsa's and in particular
the ECW (0030 - 0034/0037 - 0041)& Alexander
R-type (0064 - 0068)
Leyland Olympian's (that were based at Green Lane) MPTE bought
in the 1980's. Also (I know the bodies were rubbish) the Willowbrook
bodied Leyland Atlantean's (1843 - 1872)
at Green Lane in the 1980's as these were part of my growing up
etc, the Leyland Olympian's, MK2 Metrobuses, Scania N-113DRB's & Volvo
B-10M Citybuses, Fareway, Liverline, Merseybus & North Western
bought in 1988/89, ex-London Leyland Titan's, NBC-standard ECW/Bristol
VR's & Leyland Olympian's and the ex-MTL-London Alexander R-type
Scania N-113DRB's used by MTL-Fareway and Gillmoss in the late
'90's. However most 'low-floor' deckers (including East Lancs)
are pretty cool especially LMS's Plaxton President/Dennis Trident!
* Single Deckers
Wright bodied Volvo B-10B's, L's and BLE's and Scania L-94UB/113's
& the ex-Liverbus Northern Counties Paladin/B-10B's (apart
from the interior vandalism - get rid of the Plastic seats!).
Also the Alexander PS/Volvo B-10M's used by Stagecoach, East Lancs
Myllennium/Daf SB220's, (well maintained) Leyland Lynxes, and
(perhaps GTL could acquire some of the K-reg ones Trent Buses
are Selling off) Optare Delta/Daf SB220's!
* Midibuses
Dennis Darts of most body types except the East Lancs EL-2000 (which
I'll mention later), Daf SB120CS/Wright Cadet's, the 'newer' Volvo
B-6BLE/Wright Crusader 2's and the MAN based Optare Vecta. Also
the Optare Solo although its too early too make a judgment on that
one yet!
Favourite Operator(s)
Currently Arriva Merseyside/North West, GTL, Halton Transport,
LMS, Warrington BT and (being controversial) CMT Buses. Historically
Fareway, GM Buses (including North/South), Liverbus, Liverline,
Merseybus/MTL North and North Western. Outside of Merseyside Arriva
Kent Thameside (for assisting me in locating ex-North Western Volvo
B-10M Citybuses now used on School services), Metroline, First/Stagecoach
Manchester & the Manchester independents and as I went to Uni
there East Yorkshire and Stagecoach Kingston upon Hull!
Favourite Liveries
Considering Merseyside Arriva, MTL North/GTL, the last MPTE one,
Liverbus, Fareway and the deregulation-era livery of North Western
(and the versions used by Liverline and Bee Line). Outside Merseyside
'new'/'old' Stagecoach, FirstGroup 'Barbie', Blue Bus (Bolton),
Go North East, London General, Metrobus (Orpington), Metroline,
Blazefield Holdings neo-corporate one's, Trent Buses, Bullocks
(Cheadle), UK North, Finglands, Green Line Coaches, 'new' Cardiff
Bus, Dublin Bus, Translink (Northern Ireland), Nat-Ex and Travel
West Midlands and the 1980's/90's GM Buses (including North/South),
Kentish Bus, London & Country, Midland Fox, The Shires & Northumbria
liveries which are long gone. The worst (and this is no disrespect!)
had to be the 1930's 'retro' style Merseybus maroon used in the
late 80's/early 90's as it made modern buses look 10 years older
than they were and you couldn't see it in the dark!
Favourite Actual Bus(es)
Currently Northern Counties Palatine 2/Volvo Olympian 3324/0324 R324
WVR as I've used this most out of all the ex-'Millennium
Fleet' Olympian's. However Northern Counties Palatine 2/Daf DB250 3607 N607
DWY, NC/Leyland Olympian 3109 H109
GEV, East Lancs/Dennis Dominator 666 G667
FKA, ECW/Leyland Olympian 600DBV
133Y, Alexander/Leyland Atlantean 3984/1984 DEM
784Y or Northern Counties Paladin/Scania L-113 1055 R255
WRJ also apply as it took me long and hard to 'hit' these
vehicles! Historically probably ECW 0038 ACM
710X and Alexander R-type 0066 A316
GLV Leyland Olympian's.
Favourite Route(s)
Probably East Prescot Road corridor to Liverpool routes (i.e.
8,9,10 etc.). I also like routes 6, 7, 12/13, 14(incB/C), 15, 17C/D/217,
18A, 30B, 78/79, 82, 86, 284, 300, 311, 341, 345, 395, 'cross-river'
and (before the scallies went mental) Kirkby - Liverpool services.
Historically GM Buses 34/320 to Wigan/Manchester (I had much fun
on £2 Daysavers in Manchester in the early 90's) and outside
Merseyside the Wilmslow Road 'student' corridor & Arriva routes
in Manchester, the London scene (especially Metroline route 271
Highgate - Liverpool Street, which used the Liverpool registered
L-reg Northern Counties Palatine 2/Volvo Olympian's new to London
Suburban Bus (aka Liverbus)) and as I went to Uni there services
via the Beverley/Cottingham Road and 'Avenues' corridors in Hull.
Worst Bus(es)
Has to be the East Lancs EL-2000 bodied Dennis Dart's North Western
bought in the mid 1990's. They're cramped, badly designed/built,
ugly and too small for the routes they operate on and if you compare
it with an equivalent Plaxton Pointer you'd think they were totally
different buses even though they share the same chassis - Arriva
NW please find some way of getting rid of them from Bootle soon!
Also I'm not keen on the Optare Excel and 'early' Volvo B-6 due
to the excessive vibration these vehicles have when their engines
are on 'tickover'
Worst Operator(s)
The one which springs to mind most is City Fleet who began operations
between Thornton/Netherton to Liverpool using 'unsafe vehicles'
and eventually had their O-licence suspended for maintenance problems/unsafe
vehicles. Others could include Topping's, Village Group before
the MTL take-over and CMT Buses in its early days.

Favourite Bus
Well since I got into buses back in the early 80's, I guess I
used to like the old Daimler Fleetlines (3001 CKC
301 - 3050 CKC
350L), that used to be at Laird St, nowadays, I like most
modern stuff, Dart's in particular, especially ALX200 and Plaxton
Pointer ones, also anything Wright bodied gets a "thumbs up"!.
Favourite Route
I guess anything heading up to the Crosby/Formby/Southport area,
284 especially for scenic quality, there's a route which would
suit some nice new low floor "deckers".
Favourite Livery
Well currently I like Arriva as it looks smart and modern (other
people may say boring!!), but I used to like the old Merseyside
PTE Wirral division blue/cream livery.
John Cooper
Favourite Buses
Leyland PD2/3 with 57-seat highbridge bodywork by Leyland as
supplied to Birkenhead Corporation in 1951. Closely followed by
Bristol KSW/ECW highbridge combination.
Favourite Livery
Blue and Cream of Birkenhead Municipal Transport. Closely followed
by grey over dark blue used by Hardings before being sold to Speke
Coaches.
Favourite operator(s)
Birkenhead and Crosville Motor Services [when painted Tilling
Green]. Never did like the L.C.P.T. and later P.T.E. standard it
seemed cheap compared with Birkenhead and Wallasey and the antique
charm of The Primrose Green fleet never caught my imagination.
Favourite Modern Buses
I regard FHF 451 as the beginning of
the end of individual bus design even though I was delighted to
ride in her between the Bus and Tram show and Rock Ferry Depot.
Didn't like the VR when they were new but now delight in the chance
to ride Crosville's 608 usually on the
X8.

Favourite Bus Types, not necessarily in any order:
Gillmoss Palatines 0309 - 0337 (I'll
never recognise them as 3309, etc.)
Endurance bodied B10Bs (Emphasis on the Endurance bit, Renown body
isn't a patch on them) Titans (single door conversions - Beasts!!!!)
Favourite operator & livery:
I'll stay loyal and say the 19. Also possibly the 81, that used
to be a good run until they put the DAFs on it. Also, the 284.
Worst type of bus:
Anything from East Lancs, or anything that's a DAF
Andy Jackson
FAVOURITE BUS
Definitely the Park Royal-bodied Leyland Atlantean AN68/1Rs that
Ribble and North Western operated between 1974-1996. They operated
the Crosby routes with distinction.
FAVOURITE OPERATOR
Merseybus during the first few years of operation. They hounded
North Western out of Crosby with a fair few route innovations making
the area their own. No Stagecoach tactics to be seen!
FAVOURITE LIVERY
The final M.P.T.E. livery, after donkeys years of messing about!
WORST BUS
North Western's Mercedes Benz 709Ds, new after deregulation. You'd
take your life in your hands going on them!
WORST OPERATOR
A little known operator called Eagle Coaches. They gained the
first Merseytravel contract for the half-hourly evening and Sunday
route 209 Crosby-Fazakerley back in 1992 only for Liverbus to take
it over after a month after little or no operation in that time!
WORST LIVERY
Toppings Coaches horrendous orange and blue set up. Talk about
scaring the children!
